Sharjah Radio and Television Authority (SARA) has announced the opening of the Sharjah Khorfakkan New Road, the most important project of its kind in the region on April 14 at 4:30 pm, with all its expenses and bridges. Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, with a total length of 89 km, at a cost of 5.5 billion dirhams.

The Sharjah Department of Planning and Survey said previously that the vital and strategic project connects the city of Khorfakkan in Sharjah directly through the deserts and plains in the first section of 65 kilometers, while the second section extends 24 kilometers through the mountains, and reduces travel time between the cities to 45 minutes.

She pointed out that the project will serve a large segment of the community, as it facilitates mobility and supports economic growth, in addition to its contribution to a jump in the development of the neighboring areas along this road.

The first part consists of a double lane consisting of two walkways measuring 7.4 meters in each direction, a total length of 65 kilometers, an intermediate island with a width of 10 meters. The road also includes 14 intersections, seven underground crossings and several ferries for drainage of valleys crossing the axis the path.

The first part of the Sharjah-Khorfakkan new road stretches from Emirates Road near Al-Barashi area in the city of Al-Dhaid, near the Washah area, to the intersection of the Al-Halaki Dpha on the Fujairah-Masafi road.

The Department of Planning and Surveying said that the second part of the new Sharjah Khorfakkan road consists of two 24-kilometer double tracks, five pairs of tunnels towards Khorfakkan: the 1,300 meter Rogue tunnel, the 900 meter tunnel, the 300 meter tunnel, the 13,000 meter tunnel, Sidra length of 2700 meters.

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi inaugurated the fifth and largest tunnel of the second part of the 2,700-meter-long Khorfakkan New Sharjah Road, the longest covered mountain tunnel in the Middle East.

The new Sharjah Khorfakkan roadway consists of two double-lane roads with a width of 7.3 meters, side walkways with a width of 1.1 meters, and inter-tunnels that allow for emergency tunneling and all electromechanical works in line with the latest international standards.

The project includes a total of 10,684 square meters of rest, with a mosque for 120 men and 20 women, 8 shaded outdoor sessions for up to 300 people, parking for 45 cars, a kilometer walkway, , A number of service facilities, and a branch of the Sharjah Cooperative Society.
