The Algerian opposition today called on President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to step down from office, demanding that the military institutions in the country respond to the demands of the people and help to achieve them.

Following a meeting today, the opposition forces presented a roadmap for the transition after Bouteflika stepped down from power in what he called the "popular legitimacy" set out in Article 7 of the constitution.

The opposition plan includes acknowledging a short transition period in which President Bouteflika's terminating powers will be transferred to a presidential body, with the military institution being invited to respond to the demands of the people and help them achieve them within the framework of respect for popular legitimacy.

The roadmap is also based on the formation of a presidential body composed of national figures known for their credibility, integrity and efficiency, which adopts the demands of the people, and members are committed to abstain from running or to be nominated in the next entitlements.

The Algerian opposition in the final statement of the meeting, the need for there to be a short transition run by the army, and that the establishment of an independent body to organize the elections.

Some 1,000 lawyers dressed in their black uniforms marched in the center of the Algerian capital to call for regime change, with pressure continuing after mass demonstrations across the country calling for Bouteflika to step down.

It was written on banners raised by lawyers who came from several areas and gathered at the main post square in the capital «No to violate the Constitution» and «lawyers with the people».

They chanted "We bored this regime" and "Left" waving national flags.

Rabia Mernas, a lawyer from Blida, was dressed as a lawyer in the colors of the national flag. "People are the master of the situation, and we must listen to it," she said.
