The Turkish authorities on Wednesday arrested 63 people - most of them military pilots - on suspicion of involvement in the attempted coup in 2016, according to the prosecution in Ankara.

This comes as part of an investigation by the public prosecutor over the service group of opposition cleric Fathullah Gulen, who is accused by Turkey of being behind the attempted coup in mid-2016.

Of the 63 suspects, 46 are active military pilots and two former pilots, and the remaining 15 are civilians working for Gulen, which Turkey classifies as "terrorist," according to the Public Prosecutor's Office.

Tens of thousands of people have been arrested in a crackdown following the attempted coup, while more than 140,000 have been suspended or suspended.
