Arrived this Sunday, December 2 in the morning in Mauritania, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed ben Salman, left Nouakchott in the early evening for Algeria.

The Saudi Crown Prince has had several talks with Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz. He blasted what he described as an " anti-Saudi campaign " sparked by the assassination of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul on October 2nd.

Mohammed ben Salman has signed three financing agreements in Nouakchott in the fields of environment, hydraulics and the fight against tax evasion. Their amount has not been revealed. The kingdom is also committed to building and equipping a state-of-the-art hospital in Nouakchott. The hospital will bear the name of the King of Saudi Arabia, Salman ben Abdelaziz al-Saud.

In Algiers voices rise to criticize this visit

After his stay in Mauritania, Mohammed ben Salman is expected in Algiers, where he comes to talk business cooperation and economic partnerships. But, as in Tunisia last week, he is not really welcome. Several politicians and intellectuals have published a platform in which they criticize this visit.

For the signatories of this platform, including sociologist Nasser Djabi, MBS is " an assassin ". " It's someone who killed a journalist in his embassy in an atrocious way . And so we do not want to see it at home , "he summarizes, deploring the official position of the Algerian government.

" The authorities have other considerations. Saudi Arabia is a major oil producer and Algeria needs Riyadh's support to keep oil prices at a good level. And Algeria also needs Saudi intervention in Algeria. Saudi Arabia has always manipulated terrorist groups in the 1990s, funded, given weapons to Algerian terrorists. So, I think the Algerian authorities want to limit the damage a bit. We would have liked the official position to be a little clearer to say no to this assassination, not to intervention in the war in Yemen and that power, Algerian officials say it quite clearly, "said sociologist Nasser Djabi.
