Dozens of members of the security forces were killed and wounded in the assault of Taliban fighters in northern Afghanistan. The latter are increasing their pressure and have intensified fighting in the region in recent days, despite ongoing talks between Taliban representatives abroad and the US envoy for peace in Afghanistan.

Several police stations were attacked on Saturday night by Taliban in two provinces in the north of the country, Faryab and Badghis, bordering Turkmenistan. The fighting continued Sunday morning again.

Soldiers, policemen, pro-government militia members were targeted, while Afghan aviation conducted a series of air raids on Taliban-controlled areas.

At least 100 police have reportedly fled to neighboring Turkmenistan, crossing the border, abandoning their checkpoints. The Taliban posted on social networks several pictures of soldiers they captured.

The attack comes three days before the start of the spring, which traditionally marks the intensification of fighting by the Taliban after the winter break.

Despite bilateral talks between the United States and the Taliban to achieve a peace process on the ground, fighting continues and a ceasefire is still not on the agenda of these talks. the 6th round should take place in a few weeks.
