A report by the German company Volkswagen in Wolfsburg said today that the salary of the company's president, Herbert Des, reached 2.8 million euros last year.

Dees, 60, took over as CEO of the Volkswagen brand in passenger cars, and Des, 60, took over as CEO of Volkswagen in April 2018, replacing Matthias Muller over the diesel scandal.

The past years have been criticized repeatedly for the bonuses paid to the managers of Volkswagen despite the diesel crisis, and has amended the company in the fiscal year 2017, its system of determining the salaries of board members.

Since that date, the annual salary of the Chairman of the Board of Directors has been set at 10 million euros, with a ceiling of 5.5 million euros.

As the trend towards steady salary increases went, the rules for calculating rewards associated with success became stricter and became partly linked to the future development of the company's performance.

Despite all the difficulties it faced, Volkswagen was able to raise its sales in 2018 to an unprecedented level in a year ago with sales reaching 10.83 million cars.

After-tax profit rose 6% to 15.12 billion euros.
