The ordnance clearance service defused a Luftwaffe bomb from World War II on Tuesday evening after a major evacuation action in Dusseldorf. That's what the city said in a Tuesday night announcement.

After the discovery of the American ten-hundredth bomb in the Rath district, around 7,000 people had to leave their homes and workplaces in the immediate vicinity. Even a retirement home was affected.

In an outer radius, another 11,000 people were called to stay in enclosed spaces. The air and rail traffic was temporarily suspended.
