The head of the US nursing home, in which a woman in maternity has given birth to a baby, has resigned. As a spokesman said, the board unanimously approved the decision. Board member Gary Orman said the facility will "accept no less than the full education of this absolutely horrific situation".

At the end of December, the patient, who had been in a coma for 14 years after a serious accident, had given birth to a child. The investigators assume that the woman has become the victim of a sexual crime.

Facility has already been noticed

The private health care facility in Phoenix, Arizona, mainly looks after people with intellectual disabilities. As early as 2013, a case had caused a stir there: At that time, a male employee had made sexually explicit comments towards the patients. In 2017, patients allegedly complained about a lack of privacy.

The responsible ministry of health announced new security measures, which include, among other things, inspection visits and the obligation that several employees should be present when contacting patients. Disability initiatives also call for education on sexual violence in care facilities and staff training.
