The tariff conflict at German airports has again consequences for travelers. A warning strike by security personnel at Cologne / Bonn Airport started at midnight as planned, a Ver.di spokesman said early Thursday morning. The strike readiness is enormously high.

Also at the Airports Dusseldorf and Stuttgart all-day work stoppages are planned on Thursday. Around 110,000 passengers could be affected - so many people usually sit in the machines, which take off and land on Thursdays at the three airports.

Shortly after midnight, the warning strike at the Cologne / Bonn airport had caused problems at the control gates, through which trucks bring cargo to the airport grounds, the Ver.di spokesman said. There have been backpressures to the highway.

On the homepage of the airport Cologne / Bonn it is said, on Thursday of 199 scheduled take-offs and landings 130 are canceled. On Thursdays, there are actually around 1040 aircraft movements at the three airports. Already on Wednesday evening had become known that about 350 takeoffs or landings were canceled in Dusseldorf and 125 in Stuttgart. These numbers could rise during the course of the day.

Ver.di demands a nationwide standard payment of 20 euros per hour for checkers of passengers, freight, goods and airport employees. That would be a plus in the sometimes high double-digit percentage range - currently the payment varies depending on region and activity.

The employers offer according to own representation a plus of up to 6.4 per cent. For Ver.di this is not enough: According to the union, this would only be an increase of 2 percent for the majority of the employees. The negotiations will continue on 23 January 2019.

Already at the beginning of the week Ver.di had called for warning strikes at the Berlin Airports, which lasted only a few hours. About eight percent of the flights that day failed. On Thursday, there will be more outages during the full-time work stoppage. The employers also expect a high participation and numerous flight cancellations.
