In the case of the killed hitchhiker Sophia L., the public prosecutor Bayreuth has brought murder charges against a truck driver. The agency accuses the man of attacking, arresting and then killing the 28-year-old in mid-June. He had wanted to cover up previously committed crimes with the murder.

According to the prosecutor, the Moroccan, born in 1977, denies that she killed the student with the accused murderer. According to this, he killed Sophia L. in a dispute.

The 28-year-old, born in Amberg in the Upper Palatinate, wanted to hitchhike in mid-June 2018 from her place of study in Leipzig to Nuremberg. The truck driver took them to the investigation according to a gas station on the highway 9 in Saxony and later brought them to a rest area in Upper Franconia. Among other things, the Kriminalpolizei based their investigation on an evaluation of GPS data from the truck.

A few days later, the woman's body was found at a toll booth near the town of Asparrena in northern Spain. Previously, the police unit Guardia Civil in Jaén in the southern Spanish region of Andalusia, the suspects had taken.

The district court Bayreuth must now decide on the admission of the indictment. An appointment for the trial has not yet been scheduled.
