Police have stopped a gang of alleged postal thieves stealing thousands of shipments of money and valuables from all over Germany. Six men were provisionally arrested in Sundern in Sauerland, police and prosecutors said.

Against a 30-year-old arrest warrant was issued, which was set under conditions except enforcement. The investigators secured more than 20,000 euros in cash and numerous valuables such as smartphones, tickets, electronic devices, vouchers or jewelry. The perpetrators are said to have been employed as subcontractors for transport between various postal distribution centers.

Witnesses had discovered numerous garbage bags with opened and empty mail in December in a dumpster and notified the police. As a result, a rented apartment in Sundern had been identified, in which the investigators found the six suspects aged between 18 and 32 years.

The police want to write to the previously known victims in the entire Federal territory according to their own information. Later, a publication of the seized valuables on the Internet is planned to find the rightful addressees.
