The aspiring religion teacher Samuel Rösch has won the eighth season of the casting show "The Voice of Germany". The 24-year-old got on Sunday evening about 55 percent of the audience votes. "I'll cope with that only in the next few weeks and months," he said.

Rösch comes from near Chemnitz, he studies Protestant religious education and has performed with his band so far on Christian concerts and festivals. He was the only finalist to sing German songs. In the three-hour final Rösch convinced with three appearances.

In addition to the Roger Cicero ballad "In this Moment", the newly married musician and his coach Michael Patrick Kelly sang the duet "Auf Uns" by Andreas Bourani. With star guest Lukas Graham ("7 Years") from Denmark Rösch gave the hit "Love Someone" - in English. For the rehearsals Rösch did not like pronouncing English words easily. Afterwards he said: "I dared and had many people who helped me with the pronunciation."

Rösch prevailed in the final against his competitors Benjamin Dolic from Slovenia, Jessica Schaffler from Austria and Eros Atomus Isler from Flensburg. All candidates received prominent support during their performances in Berlin: British musician Olly Murs ("Heart Skips a Beat") opened the show together with the four finalists. Later on Graham and Jess Glynne ("Real Love"), Tom Odell ("Another Love") and Zara Larsson ("Lush Life") performed with the casting show participants. Herbert Grönemeyer also presented his latest hit "Mein Lebensstrahlen" at the end of the show.

Winner Rösch wants to let his studies of Protestant religious education after the bachelor initially rest and goes on tour with five other candidates after Christmas.

"The Voice of Germany" has been on television since 2011. ProSieben and Sat.1 have already announced a ninth season. This coming Sunday will also be the first "The Voice Senior" with candidates over 60 years.
