Three weeks after a fatal shot at a woman at the New Year's Eve fireworks in Schönberg, the investigators no longer expect a targeted killing. In the direct environment of the woman one "could find no motive", which indicated such an act, said senior prosecutor Axel Bieler in Kiel.

According to the findings to date, there are two likely scenarios, said Bieler: It is possible that the offender on something else entirely - for example, a road sign - targeted "and thereby just missed his target." Or he wanted to shoot "somewhere to nowhere" and hit the woman. So far, the investigators had not excluded a murder.

Currently, one does not go in this "tragic accident" from any targeted firing, said the police. However, they are still looking for witnesses who could contribute to the Enlightenment.

The mother of three small children had wanted to watch the fireworks on New Year's Eve with her husband outside the door. After a few minutes she collapsed mortally. Metal fragments were found in the woman's head. For the prosecution is certain that a small-caliber bullet hit the 39-year-old - from a pistol, a revolver or a rifle.
