A suspected car thief attacked a police officer in Hamburg and seriously injured. According to the investigators, the 43-year-old wedged an officer willfully between his vehicle and a civilian police car. The suspect and his passenger were arrested for attempted murder.

The incident occurred on Thursday night, according to police in a focus on car theft. Civil servants noticed a stolen car in Altona district and circled it at a red light next to a taxi with three vehicles.

When the officers got out and made themselves known as police, put the alleged car thief back. Then he accelerated "with an accelerating engine" to flee between the taxi and a civilian patrol car, reported the investigators. He drove to the 47-year-old and squeezed him.

The police car was pushed aside as a result of the collision, and the car with the fleeing suspect immediately crossed a traffic island and remained lying. The inmates fleeing on foot were arrested after a brief persecution. A witness assisting in the taxi helped.

Among other things, the squashed policeman broke a leg, he was taken to a hospital. The 43-year-old driver of the stolen car is to be presented to a judge who decides on pre-trial detention. The 34-year-old passenger is expected to be released for the time being.
