A flight from the US state of New Jersey to Hong Kong was a torture for a good 250 passengers. In bitter cold, they had to wait about 16 hours on board a machine from United Airlines, as reported, inter alia, the station CBC. Accordingly, the machine had to land due to a medical emergency in the Canadian city of Goose Bay.

A passenger was taken to the hospital there. But the machine could not continue because of a technical problem. Apparently the cold allowed a door to freeze. According to CNN and CBC, the outside temperature was minus 30 degrees Celsius. Because in Goose Bay at night no customs officers are in action, the passengers were not allowed to leave the plane.

It was quickly "unpleasantly" cold, a passenger told the station CBC. The crew distributed blankets, but that did not help much. To CNN said Dutt, the food was also scarce. Only hours later donuts and coffee were brought to a fast food chain.

Finally got off plan, got on a bus and now waiting to be taken back to Newark. 16hours since we landed in Goose Bay. pic.twitter.com/nBb0zKwOba

On Sunday morning then landed a replacement machine. The passengers had to change and were taken to Newark Airport - where their machine had started the day before.

In most parts of Canada, especially in the East, the weekend was over icy temperatures. Snowfall led to congestion, at several airports flights had to be canceled.
