The Bulgarian police have apparently caught a suspect following the murder of journalist Viktoria Marinowa. This is reported by Bulgarian media and the news agency Reuters. "We can announce that a suspect is in custody," said a person familiar with the investigation accordingly. Details were not mentioned.

A spokeswoman for the Interior Ministry declined to comment. The corpse of the reporter was found in Ruse on Saturday. Marinova was raped, beaten and then suffocated.

The 30-year-old had presented in her TV show journalists who researched a suspected case of corruption. It was about the misuse of EU funds.

Whether the alleged murder was related to Marinova's professional activity is unclear. The police considered this unlikely, as the news agency AFP learned from investigators.
