Around 50 people took part in a mass brawl on Alexanderplatz in Berlin with blows, kicks and pepper spray. Overall, around 400 people had gathered on the square, a police spokesman said on Thursday's mission.

Most of them were teenagers or young adults. The officers provisionally arrested nine people for the brawl, and about 100 policemen were on duty. "The officials also used irritant gas," the spokesman said. A policewoman was injured.

Background of the brawl is said to be a dispute between rival YouTubers, reports among others the "Bild" newspaper. According to the police, the conflict was called in social media.

The beating youths therefore also tried to pull an official into the crowd. A little later, the situation resolved. "About 20 of them ran into the subway station and jumped into the track bed, where they threw themselves with stones," said the police spokesman.
