The police have smashed after an investigation in Germany, Czech Republic and Austria an internationally active drug ring. The main perpetrators were located in the Nuremberg area and in the Czech Republic, as the Austrian police announced on Thursday in Eisenstadt.

A total of 53 people - 49 men and 4 women - were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking. 41 of the alleged perpetrators are currently in prison and a suspect is being sought with an international arrest warrant. Two participants have already been sentenced to prison terms of five and a half and six years.

The drug ring was the sale of about 314 kilograms of cannabis flowers, 20 kilograms of speed, a kilogram of cocaine and other drugs have been detected, it said in the message. Accordingly, the drugs with a street sale value of 3.8 million euros were sold between autumn 2017 and January 2019.

During searches, various drugs with a black market value of about 810,000 euros and prohibited weapons were also secured.
