In Australia, a German tourist has been missing since the turn of the year. The 62-year-old woman was last seen by police on Wednesday morning when she set off on a hike from a hotel in the city of Alice Springs on the morning of January 1st. Alice Springs is the only larger town in the Australian Outback, the sparsely populated hinterland in the center of Australia. The temperatures reach there during the day currently more than 40 degrees.

The disappearance of the woman only became apparent after a few days because she had not returned to her accommodation. Originally, she should have checked out there on January 5. The police in the state of Northern Territory then launched a large-scale search, even with the help of a drone. She also asks for help: whoever has information about the whereabouts of the tourist should get in touch.

Pictures of a surveillance camera show the woman in knee-length jeans, a red-checked blouse and a red backpack on her back leaving her hotel. The police did not give any details about which region in Germany the vacationer comes from.
