Hailstorms have caused millions in damage in and around Sydney. The insurance went to Friday afternoon 25,000 claims totaling 125 million Australian dollars, about 78 million euros. This was reported by the insurance association of the country.

Affected were Sydney and the surrounding regions of the Central Coast. The numbers are likely to increase sharply in the coming days, if more affected people report for damage to houses, shops or cars in the insurance.

A heavy hail hit Sydney on Thursday with deafening noise. Golf ball sized hailstones crunched through windshields of cars, drivers sought shelter in gas stations. Surfers surprised by the swift thunderstorms surprised surfers at the famous beach Bondi Beach trying to protect themselves with their surfboards.
