It has been found that over 3,300 special needs schools across the country are experiencing a shortage of classrooms, and that the situation where classes are being disrupted due to the inability to secure classrooms continues to occur, especially in urban areas.

The number of children attending special needs schools this year is more than 147,000, the highest ever, and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology investigated the response status of special needs schools nationwide as of October last year.

According to the report, there are 7,476

classrooms nationwide where temporary measures have been taken to accommodate the increase in children and students

, such as dividing one classroom

or repurposing special classrooms such as music rooms and art rooms .

There has been an increase of 351 classrooms since the previous survey in 2021.

▽Of these, 2,668 classrooms are disrupting classes and require maintenance.

▽When combined with 691 classrooms that are expected to be needed in the future, the number of ``classroom shortages'' rises to 3,359.

Although this is a decrease of 381 from the previous time, there is still a shortage mainly in urban areas such as Tokyo, Osaka, and Chiba, and schools are saying that ``classrooms are divided, so the range in which each student can move is limited.'' That means it has been reported.

In addition, in April last year, standards for the establishment of special needs schools were enacted to improve the environment, but 30% of schools did not meet the requirements for school buildings and 50% for playgrounds.

Starting this year, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology is strengthening its support by increasing the subsidy rate for school building renovation costs.
