Swedish cinemas are struggling to attract audiences to their theatres. This is stated by the Minister of Culture in front of industry representatives and cultural politicians at the film policy summit at the Gothenburg Film Festival.

- The technological, social, cultural political and economic developments have meant that we need a broad overview of Swedish film policy, says Parisa Liljestrand.

The government has therefore decided to appoint a film policy inquiry.

- The investigation's mission is very broad. The idea is that it should have every opportunity to be able to twist and turn all issues that can affect the industry and film culture in a broad sense, says Parisa Liljestrand.

The special investigator will be Eva Bergquist, director of culture in the Stockholm region. The result must be presented at the end of February 2025.

- These are big questions, there is a lot that needs to be dealt with, but in a year I am convinced that this can still be turned around, says the Minister of Culture.
