In 2024, 54.9 percent of the 10,000 most listened songs in the world were in English, a decrease of 12 percent in two years.

Spanish is the second most popular language on the global charts, followed by Hindi in third place. In fourth and fifth place respectively come Korean and Japanese.

Spanish is increasing in popularity

In the US, the percentage of songs in Spanish has doubled in two years.

In 2023, it was more than twice as common for a Hindi song to be in the top 10,000 songs in the world, compared to two years ago.

Cultural shift

According to the report, the growth of the Spanish music market in the US may be due to an increasing Hispanic population, more music streaming and a cultural shift with more multiculturalism.

The shift can be traced back to artists like Ricky Martin and Shakira. Today, instead, Spanish-speaking artists such as Bad Bunny and Peso Pluma are popular.
