Preliminary investigation: The fire was caused by illegal work carried out by construction workers during the cold storage renovation on the first underground floor.
Xu Hong, deputy secretary of the Xinyu Municipal Party Committee and mayor, said that the open fire at the scene was extinguished at 18:50 on the 24th, and the on-site rescue ended at 20:50 that day. The accident killed 39 people and injured 9 people, 8 of whom were in stable condition. 1 person is being rescued.

Fire department: A total of 48 people were rescued, 39 of whom were killed and 9 were sent to hospital for treatment.
Gong Junhui, leader of the Xinyu Fire Rescue Detachment, reported the basic situation of the fire at the press conference: At 15:24 on the 24th, the Xinyu Fire Rescue Detachment Command Center received an alarm saying that along Jialeyuan Street, Tiangong South Avenue, Yushui District, Xinyu City A fire broke out on the basement floor of the store.
The detachment dispatched 10 fire stations, a total of 20 fire trucks, and 118 rescue personnel to the scene.
At 15:31 that day, rescue personnel from the fire station in the jurisdiction first arrived at the scene.
Through external observation, there was a lot of thick smoke coming out of the burning building, and someone called for help on the second floor. According to the situation on the scene, the commander divided the rescuers into two fire-fighting groups and one search and rescue group, and used the fire ladder to rescue the two trapped people.
At 15:50, the full attendance headquarters arrived at the scene that day and organized on-site rescue forces to use fire ladders to open evacuation and rescue passages on the east, west and north sides of the building.
At 18:20, a total of 48 people were rescued, 39 of whom were killed and 9 were sent to hospital for treatment.

At 20:10, repeated on-site inspections and verification confirmed that no one was trapped in the building where the fire broke out.
At 20:50, the on-site rescue forces gradually evacuated and returned to construction.
Xinyu Municipal Education Bureau: All off-campus training institutions suspend training activities
Zeng Xianfeng, director of the Xinyu Municipal Education Bureau, said that according to the investigation, during the rescue process of this fire accident, it was found that students from higher vocational colleges who participated in education consulting training were unfortunately killed.
At present, the relevant departments have controlled the persons in charge of the institutions involved.
Zeng Xianfeng said that on the night after the accident, Xinyu had conducted fire hazard inspections on all educational institutions in the city, especially boarding schools, and required all off-campus training institutions in the city to suspend training activities and carry out in-depth fire safety inspections and rectifications.
At the same time, daily supervision will be comprehensively strengthened, especially the investigation of fire safety hazards in crowded places such as kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, etc., to eliminate fire risks to the greatest extent.
