Suspected invitations to currywurst dinners have led to investigations by the Hanover public prosecutor's office.

The public prosecutor's office is investigating 17 employees of the Central Police Directorate (ZPD) on suspicion of corruption, a spokesman said.

They are accused of having regularly accepted invitations to currywurst dinners for over ten months.

The “Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung” had previously reported on it.

According to the report, the Interior Ministry initially did not want to comment on the case.

A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Justice told the newspaper that it was about employees of the central police headquarters who had been invited to dinner several times during training courses.

According to the public prosecutor's office, a speaker from a state company is said to have often invited course participants from the other state authority to eat currywurst after the training.

It is therefore about 2000 euros.

According to the public prosecutor's office, a possible motive for the alleged dinner invitations could be that the students were supposed to give an assessment at the end of the course.

The speaker could have hoped for positive reviews from the Currywurst invitations.

"That could be the case, and that's why we are obliged to check it," said the spokesman for the public prosecutor's office.
