CAN 2024: sharing of points between a frustrated Mali and a Tunisia in danger

Mali and Tunisia left Korhogo back to back this Saturday January 20 (1-1).

At the end of a rich first half and a technically less successful second, the Eagles' duel ended with a result which deprived Mali of qualification from the second day of the group phase and which put Tunisia in a delicate accounting situation.

Between Tunisia and Mali, no one has taken flight.

The Eagles of Carthage clashed with those of Mali this Saturday, January 20, in Korhogo (1-1).

Especially in the first half, the two selections went blow for blow, without either taking the lead on the scoreboard.

Overall superior in the game, Mali had to postpone their qualification until later.

Given the footballing poverty offered by the Tunisians during their

opposition against Namibia

, we could not imagine Jalel Kadri's men trying to take things in hand in the first minutes against the Malians.

But after ten minutes under pressure, Lassine Sinayoko recalled why his team took on the status of favorite for this game.

With a cross shot from the left, which hit the post before dying in the net, he made his compatriots exult in the stands (10th).

But the Eagles thus had the misfortune of waking up others.

Those of Carthage struck 10 minutes later.

Unable to develop the game, it was paradoxically at the end of an action of 16 passes, the longest of this

leading to a goal, that Ali Abdi, well shifted to the left, centered hard on the ground for Hamza Rafia .

It was the latter who brought the score to 1-1, surprising a defensively passive Falaye Sacko in marking.

What more can we say, except that Mali tried, without success.

Shots in the second half (9), none on target.

Including the recovery of Sinayoko who, facing the goal, sent the leather into the stands (79th), after an excellent cross.

The kind of occasion that makes you say to yourself that it was the last good shot to take the advantage at the end of the match.

Another striking fact of the game, the aerial exit which would have had its place in an MMA cage signed Bechir Ben Said.

Far from his goal, he hit and carried away his defender Muntesar Talbi, Sinayoko and his own shoulder which required treatment.

It took five minutes for the actors during this intermission to come to their senses.

With his ideas clear again, the Malian striker was able to do the calculation: with a 1-1, his selection, which now has four points, sees a ticket for the round of 16, but is not yet officially qualified despite its domination.

As for the Tunisians, you don't need to excel in mental arithmetic to know that with a second draw, and therefore two points on the clock, danger lurks before the last match against South Africa.
