Employees at a supermarket in Upper Franconia discovered an exotic spider between bananas on Saturday before the store opened.

Experts gave the all-clear, the police said.

The spider was not - as initially suspected - a type of banana spider, but a giant crab spider.

According to the police, this species of spider does not pose a major threat to humans.

The venom of banana spiders, on the other hand, can be life-threatening to humans.

Firefighters caught the spider in the supermarket in Bindlach (Bayreuth district).

The animal was taken to an expert.

Nobody got hurt.
