The auction house "Julien's" has auctioned off Princess Diana's little black dress for $325,000.

This far exceeded the expectations of fashion experts in advance: the value was estimated between 100,000 and 200,000 US dollars.

Fashion icon Diana's black dress was designed by designer Catherine Walker in 1985 - a household name when it comes to the British royal family's fashion.

It features a bardot neckline and long sleeves with a nautical black and white pattern at the neck and cuffs.

According to Julien's, Princess Diana wore it to a private event in 1993.

As part of the event with the motto "Unstoppable: Signature Styles of Iconic Women in Fashion", pieces by style icons Elizabeth Taylor, Sarah Jessica Parker and Princess Grace of Monaco, among others, were also sold.

Other items sold at the auction included a pink tutu skirt by designer Patricia Field worn by Sarah Jessica Parker in the cult series "Sex and the City" for $52,000 and a Burberry coat by Whitney Houston for $4550.

A green Givenchy costume worn by Princess Grace of Monaco sold for the same price as Princess Diana's piece.

Just last year, the auction house sold another of Princess Diana's dresses for a record $1.1 million.

It was an evening dress by designer Jacques Azagury that Diana wore on a trip to Florence, Italy in 1985.
