According to the ideas of the medical profession, patients should primarily dial the on-call number 116 117 in an emergency. This is the result of a statement by the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, the Marburger Bund and the Association of General Practitioners, which was published in Berlin.

Control centres of the emergency number 112 and 116 117 were to be networked and integrated. Callers should be given an initial assessment of their concern and then sent to an emergency room, urgent care center, or doctor.

Reform of emergency care

Among other things, the Alliance for the Rescue Service is also calling for the technical merging of the emergency numbers 112 and 116 117 to make it easier for those seeking help. Standardised emergency call queries and telephone resuscitation should be set up, as well as the option of being able to forward non-life-threatening requests for help to 116 117.

This Tuesday, Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) wants to present his reform plans for emergency care. This is because emergency services and emergency rooms are often overloaded. Many patients go to emergency rooms, even if doctors don't think they're emergencies.
