Although the late 75th edition of the Emmy Awards was a ceremony without great moments, simpler and simpler than anything else, there was one that brought emotions to the surface: the ascension to the stage for the presentation of one of the awards of Christina Applegate, who announced in 2021 that she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

Christina Applegate, nominated for Best Lead Actress in the comedy category for Dead to Me, took the stage and couldn't hold back her tears as she received a resounding ovation from everyone present. The Marriage with Children actress was accompanied and holding her cane due to the difficulty of movement caused by her multiple sclerosis.

"You're embarrassing me with disability by standing there, but okay," she joked, visibly moved. "You don't have to applaud every time I can do something," he said, drawing laughter and applause from the audience.

"I'm going to cry more than I've ever cried," the actress continued while talking about her first on-screen appearance in a 1972 episode of Days of Our Lives.

Although Applegate shared in February 2023 that she hoped the 2023 Screen Actors Guild Awards would be her "last awards show as an actress," she was nominated as a nominee for Featured Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Netflix's Dead to Me. Applegate presented that award to Quinta Brunson for her role in Abbott College, while The Bear's Ayo Edibiri won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

After the speech of the first Emmy winner of the night, whom Applegate called to come on stage saying "Ayo, move your ass over here", the actress introduced Carol Burnett, who presented the award to the lead actress in a comedy, a category in which Applegate was also nominated.

Applegate revealed in May during an interview with Vanity Fair that she doesn't expect to work as an actress again after the third and final season of Dead to Me. Right now, I couldn't imagine getting up at 5 a.m. and spending 12 to 14 hours on a set," he told the Los Angeles Times in February 2023.
