On the 150th, the 15th anniversary of the founding of the Metropolitan Police Department, a commemorative ceremony was held with Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress in attendance, and Their Majesties the Emperor expressed his mourning for the victims of the Noto Peninsula Earthquake in his speech.

Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress arrived at the headquarters of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department in Kasumigaseki, Tokyo, shortly after 15:10 a.m. on the 7th, and were greeted by senior officials of the Metropolitan Police Department.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, the predecessor of the Metropolitan Police Department, was founded in Meiji 150, and Toshiyoshi Kawaji, who was in charge of investigating the police system in Europe, was appointed as the first "Grand Police Inspector," which is the current Inspector General of Police.

His Majesty the Emperor began by expressing his feelings of mourning for the victims of the Noto Peninsula earthquake and his sympathy for the bereaved families and victims, and then stated, "There are still many people whose safety is unknown or who have been forced to evacuate, and I sincerely hope that the relief and recovery work will proceed swiftly."

Commenting on the <>th anniversary of the founding of the Metropolitan Police Department, he said, "I have heard that the Metropolitan Police Department plays an important role not only as a metropolitan police force, but also as one of the largest prefectural police forces, and I hope that you will continue to fulfill your responsibilities while responding to changes in social conditions."

At the ceremony, Police Commissioner Hiroshi Kojima stated, "The attitude of caring for the peace of the people of Tokyo and each and every one of them is the traditional spirit of the Metropolitan Police Department, and we will continue to meet the expectations and mandates of the people of Tokyo and the people."
