Actress and singer Selena Gomez, 31, is set to portray rock singer Linda Ronstadt, 77, in a planned biopic. This was reported by the industry papers »Variety0171 and »Hollywood Reporter« . Gomez posted a photo of Ronstadt's 2013 memoir, Simple Dreams, in an Instagram story. Ronstadt, on the other hand, linked to the industry reports about the project on Instagram and wrote that it all started with a "simple dream".

According to the »Hollywood Reporter«, producer James Keach ("Walk the Line") and Ronstadt's manager John Boylan are behind the film project about the eleven-time Grammy Award winner.

Ronstadt and Gomez both have Mexican roots. Ronstadt has released two dozen albums in her long country-rock career. The most critically acclaimed is "Heart Like A Wheel" from 1974 with the single "You're No Good". In Germany, the single »It's So Easy« was her biggest chart success in 1978. In 1990, Ronstadt had another hit in a duet with Aaron Neville, "Don't Know Much."

In 2014, Linda Ronstadt was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Due to a degenerative nerve disease, Ronstadt ended her career more than ten years ago. For a time, the singer was in a relationship with actor Steve Martin, director George Lucas and former California Governor Jerry Brown.

Selena Gomez has starred in films such as "The Big Short," "Bad Neighbors 2" and "A Rainy Day in New York." Most recently, she directed the mystery series »Only Murders in the Building«. But Gomez has also had great success as a singer with hits such as »Bad Liar« (2017) or »Lose You To Love Me« (2019).

Recently, however, Gomez has been in the headlines due to the Golden Globe award ceremony. There was a lot of speculation on social media about an excerpt from the broadcast in which Gomez whispered to Taylor Swift. Lip readers claimed to have realized that it was about a prevented selfie with Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet. Gomez denied this in a comment.
