A 36-year-old constable from the Ichihara Police Station in Chiba Prefecture, who was arrested and charged with fraudulently using a credit card in another person's name, has been re-arrested on suspicion of stealing the credit card at the home of an elderly person who visited to check on his safety.

The suspect who was re-arrested was Takashi Asaoka (36), a constable of the Ichihara Police Station's Regional Division, and according to the police, he is suspected of stealing a woman's credit card from the home of a woman in her 2s living in Ichihara City in February.

It is believed that he visited the woman's house as a police job in response to a request from the woman's relatives to confirm her safety, and stole the card at that time.

The constable was arrested and charged with fraudulently using a credit card in the woman's name when purchasing face towels and masks at a general store in Chiba Prefecture in May, and a subsequent investigation revealed that he was also suspected of being involved in the theft.

Since he admitted to the charges, the police are investigating the details of the incident.

Regarding the re-arrest of the constable, Noriaki Hamada, chief of the Ichihara Police Station, commented, "It is regrettable that a police officer caused the incident, and I would like to express my deepest apologies to the victims and the citizens of the prefecture."
