At least five people have been injured in a knife attack at a school in Spain. According to the information available so far, a secondary school student attacked and injured three teachers and two classmates in Jerez de la Frontera in the southwest of the country, a police spokesman told journalists. A 14-year-old had been arrested as a suspected perpetrator. Two knives were found with him, with which he probably carried out the attack.

The school had been evacuated as a precaution, the official said. However, the situation is now completely under control. So far, nothing is known about the reasons for the attack. Investigations have already begun, said the mayor of Jerez de la Frontera, María José García Pelayo, on television.

According to the media, none of the victims were critically injured. A teacher had been injured in one eye and was being treated in hospital. Since the alleged perpetrator is already 14 years old, he can be reported and charged with assault in Spain.

A student told the newspaper "El País" that the attacker suddenly took two kitchen knives out of his backpack in the middle of class at 8:20 a.m. and stabbed a classmate sitting in front of him. He shouted, "I'm going to kill you." After that, he attacked students and teachers in his classroom and another classroom. In panic, everyone ran outside.
