On August 30, 2023, soldiers seized power in Libreville, overthrowing Ali Bongo Odimba, president of Gabon for almost 14 years (October 2009). Before him, his father Omar Bongo spent nearly 41 years in power. General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema became president of the transition. In his swearing-in, he promised to restore institutions that are more respectful of human rights and democracy. On 13 September 2023, Amélie Tulet and Jad El Khoury met Jeanne Clarisse Dilaba, national coordinator of Reddhac, the Network of Human Rights Defenders in Central Africa.
