Located on the Science Island in Hefei, Anhui Province, the Oriental Super Ring (EAST), commonly known as the "artificial little sun", is currently undergoing upgrades and is expected to be completed in May 2021.

EAST is a magnetically confined nuclear fusion experimental device independently designed and developed by the Institute of Plasma of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and has complete intellectual property rights. It is the world's first non-circular cross-section full superconducting tokamak.
