Due to the significantly increasing number of corona infections, the British government has again tightened the measures.

"We have to impose a lockdown in England to get the new Corona variant under control," Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in a televised address on Monday evening.

“That means that you have to stay at home.” The house can only be left for necessary activities such as visiting the doctor or working.

Schools have to close.

Johnson said the measures would likely stay in place through mid-February.

From the government's point of view, the country is in a "critical phase" of the pandemic.

On Monday, the corona vaccine from the University of Oxford and the pharmaceutical company Astrazeneca was administered for the first time in Great Britain - so far, no other state has used the vaccine.

Most recently, Great Britain had announced new records for new infections and patients.

Recently, there have been 20 percent more deaths, said Johnson.

He primarily blamed the coronavirus mutant discovered in Great Britain.

It is 50 to 70 percent more contagious than the previously known form.

"Stay home, protect the (health service) NHS, save lives," said Johnson.
