Caregivers should be vaccinated during a second phase of the vaccination campaign, recommends the High Authority for Health.

But the latter are not necessarily inclined to injection.

According to a study conducted by Public Health France, some of them fear side effects or an ineffective vaccine

On the front line in the face of the Covid-19 epidemic, healthcare staff will not be the first to be vaccinated, with the exception of staff at risk in nursing homes.

Their turn will come in a second phase "as soon as a larger number of doses will be available" according to the High Authority for Health, which on Monday revealed its recommendations on the vaccine strategy in France.

But according to a study conducted by Public Health France on the acceptance of a vaccine against Covid-19, caregivers would not necessarily be very inclined to be vaccinated.

in health facilities, vaccination coverage was only 35%.

It varies according to the profession: 67% of doctors, a little less than 40% of nurses and 20% of nursing assistants.

"Those who do not get vaccinated have not understood that it was not only protection for them but also protection for others. And that is very strong, if not even more, for the Covid model", advances Gilles Pialoux, infectious disease specialist at Tenon hospital.

"Indeed for caregivers, and in particular non-medical caregivers, it is a younger population and which does not perceive itself as at risk, and rightly so."

A vaccine too fast?

When asked why, unvaccinated caregivers question the vaccine's effectiveness and fear side effects.

For Thierry Amouroux, spokesperson for the national union of nursing professionals, the speed with which the vaccines against the Covid have been developed does not really help.

"We have no scientific data published by the various laboratories. We are waiting to see what it is," he says.
