It was found that the gift certificates that Wakayama City mailed to all households in an attempt to support citizens affected by the new coronavirus were stolen from the mailboxes of each household one after another.

Approximately 120 damage reports have been filed so far, and police are investigating them as theft cases.

Last month, Wakayama City independently issued a gift certificate worth 3,000 yen per person and mailed it to all households in the city in order to support citizens and businesses affected by the new corona.

However, the city received a series of inquiries from residents saying that the gift certificate should have arrived but has not yet arrived.

According to police investigation, it was found that there was a suspicion that the envelope containing the gift certificate had been removed from the mailbox of each household.

In particular, damage is concentrated in condominiums and apartments, and about 120 damage reports have been filed so far, so the police are investigating it as a theft case.
