  The Beijing News previously reported that on June 19, 2018, Zhao Hongcai went to Guo Ziyu’s home to chase after 71-year-old Yang Fengrong. Guo Ziyu was also injured by Zhao Hongcai with a walking stick (wooden stick) when he heard the news.

Afterwards, Guo Ziyu stepped forward to snatch the wooden stick in Zhao Hongcai's hand and pushed it to the ground, pressed Zhao Hongcai and called the police.

Soon after, Zhao Hongcai was helped home by his family and died.

  In 2019, the court found Guo Ziyu guilty of intentional injury in the first instance and sentenced him to six years in prison.

After Guo Ziyu filed an appeal, Liaoning Chaoyang Intermediate People's Court ruled to be sent back for retrial.

On August 17, 2020, the case was retrial and sentenced. The People's Court of Lingyuan City sentenced Guo Ziyu to five years' imprisonment for intentional injury and compensated the victims' families with funeral expenses of 25018 yuan.

Guo Ziyu’s son Guo Yongfeng told the Beijing News reporter that he would appeal to the Liaoning Chaoyang Intermediate Court in accordance with the law.
