A 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck the Aegean Sea that straddles the western coast of Turkey and the island of Samos in eastern Greece on October 30.

As of the morning of the 31st, the earthquake caused 24 deaths and 804 injuries in Turkey.

The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Agency said on the 31st that the earthquake occurred at 2:51 pm on the 30th local time, resulting in 24 deaths and 804 injuries in Turkey, of which 743 people were injured in Izmir Province and 61 people were injured in the three surrounding provinces.

  Turkish Health Minister Fakhrdin Koca said that 364 people have been discharged from the hospital and 435 people are still receiving treatment, of which 25 are in intensive care and 9 are undergoing surgery.

  In Turkey, nearly 4,000 search and rescue personnel, 475 vehicles and 20 search and rescue dogs were put into search and rescue. 960 tents, 4,500 blankets and 3,672 cots were sent to the earthquake-stricken area.

  Izmir Governor Yavuz Selim Kosgar said that as of the evening of the 30th, the search and rescue team had rescued more than 70 people from the rubble.

  Izmir, the capital of Izmir Province and Turkey’s third largest city, suffered severe damage. At least 17 buildings collapsed and seawater poured into the streets.

As of the morning of the 31st, the search and rescue team has completed search and rescue in 8 of the buildings and is continuing to search and rescue in 9 other buildings.
