Nagasaki Pacific War end tunnel factory site open to the public October 26, 18:49

At the end of the Pacific War, a tunnel constructed in Nagasaki City as a weapons manufacturing factory is open to the public during the United Nations Disarmament Week.

The "Mitsubishi Weapon Sumiyoshi Tunnel Factory Site" in Sumiyoshi-machi, Nagasaki City is six tunnels dug on the slope of the mountain to avoid air raids and continue to make torpedo parts at the end of the Pacific War.

Located 2.3 km from the hypocenter, this tunnel was evacuated by many people immediately after the atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, and is managed by Nagasaki City as a relic that conveys the situation at the time of the bombing and the history of the war.

Every year, the inside is open to the public around August 9th of "Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Day" and "UN Disarmament Week" from October 24th to 30th, and this is also open to the public.

Two of the six tunnels are open to the public, with rocks that have been excavated inside and torpedoes of the same type that were made at the time.

The panel also explains the background to the construction of the factory and the situation at the time when the injured who had evacuated to the tunnel were being treated.

The "Mitsubishi Weapon Sumiyoshi Tunnel Factory Site" will be open to the public until the 30th of this month.
