In order to prevent accidents where trains and deer come into contact, JR West decided to install a device that plays a sound mixed with the barking of dogs and wolves that deer dislike and keeps them away in some vehicles running in Okayama prefecture. became.

This device was developed by the Railway Technical Research Institute and was released to the press at the garage of JR Okayama Station on the 23rd.

When a vehicle equipped with the device travels in a place where deer are expected to inhabit, the sound that is mixed with the deer's warning and the sounds of dogs and wolves that deer dislike is heard from the speaker. ..

According to JR, the number of accidents in which trains and deer came into contact with each other in Okayama Prefecture increased to 129 last year.

In addition to this device, we have been taking measures to keep deer away from the railroad tracks by placing blocks containing iron so that they will not approach the railroad tracks in search of iron.

From 27th of this month, we will operate it on a trial basis in the section from Niimi Station on the JR Kishin Line to Sayo Station in Hyogo Prefecture, and hope to put it to practical use if the effect is confirmed.

Takeo Maeda, Mayor of Okayama Diesel Train Company of JR West, said, "I want to reduce the contact between trains and deer as much as possible so that customers can use it more safely and with peace of mind."
