Report: A day in the hospital with more Covid patients: "We don't know anything about the virus, we don't know how to treat it"
The antibodies that the body produces after coronavirus infection, and that protect it from being infected again, remain effective for at least five to seven months after infection.
These are the conclusions of a serological macro-study carried out by the
Cancer Center
of the
University of Arizona
, and published in the journal
Immunity
.
The team of researchers, led by immunobiologist Deepta Bhattacharya, analyzed the blood of 5,882 people confirmed positive by PCR.
Some asymptomatic, others that did develop the disease, in search of the proteins that will protect the individual from further infection.
The first serological analysis was performed two weeks after confirmation of the positive by PCR.
All the individuals in the study, one of the largest to date, had produced neutralizing antibodies.
The most severe cases of Covid-19 had higher antibody production than milder or asymptomatic cases, and these neutralizing antibodies remained detectable for five to seven months afterward.
