  In October 2019, during the construction of the first phase of the Central Avenue project of the Wuzhai Modern Agricultural Industrial Park project in Wuzhai County, Shanxi Province, this mural tomb was discovered and the Shanxi Provincial Bureau of Cultural Heritage appointed the Shanxi Provincial Archaeological Research Institute to organize the excavation.

  The mural tomb is located at the intersection of the northwest of Qiansuo Village, Wuzhai County and the Mawu Line. The tomb is a vertical cave slope type tomb road, 3.36 meters long, 2.4 meters wide at the top, 1.3 meters wide at the bottom, and 2.5 meters deep; the opening distance of the tomb 1.1 meters above the ground.

The burial chamber is painted against the pillar and the arch.

  Three pieces of porcelain were found in the tomb, one piece of black-glazed porcelain bowl and two pieces of black-glazed lamp.

All four walls and the top of the tomb should be painted with murals, but they were destroyed by the excavator during the construction of the tomb.

  The lower north wall of the tomb murals draws landscapes and pavilions; the northwest wall draws landscapes and pine trees; the northeast wall draws landscapes and bamboos; the east wall draws tents, the tents are lifted up, and there are three scroll paintings in the room. The contents can be seen in landscapes and bamboos. Etc.; the figures on the mural on the right side of the doorway on the southwest wall have fallen off, and the content is unknown; the left side of the doorway on the southeast wall is painted with a red-winged helmet-shaped male waiter dressed as a Mongol; the south wall is where the tomb is located, and there is a black straight line .

  According to Wang Jun, a staff member of the Shanxi Archaeological Research Institute, a preliminary judgment based on the contents of the porcelain and murals unearthed from the tomb indicates that the tomb was in the Yuan Dynasty and the owner of the tomb was a wealthy landlord.

The Wuzhai Mural Tomb is the first discovery of the Yuan Dynasty Mural Tomb in this area, and it provides valuable information for studying the social life of the Yuan Dynasty.
