China News Service, Toronto, September 25 (Reporter Yu Ruidong) A pair of Chinese Panda Pandas who had planned to return to China in advance have been stranded in the Calgary Zoo in Canada for more than 4 months due to the new crown epidemic, and they were once faced with a crisis of staple food supply. .

The Calgary Zoo released a positive message to the outside world on September 25, saying that the supply of fresh bamboo has been temporarily eased, and the return journey of giant pandas seems to be finalized.

The Calgary Zoo stated in a statement that the international community is very concerned about the situation of the giant pandas "Da Mao" and "Er Shun".

The pair of giant pandas are continuing to receive "special care" from the nursing staff.

Given that the supply of bamboo in Canada can only be maintained until the end of September, the park is purchasing fresh bamboo for them through different supply channels across North America.

The zoo stated that the work related to purchasing fresh bamboo was not satisfactory because it was time-consuming, laborious and costly, but the zoo was still committed to doing its utmost to ensure the health and well-being of everyone's cherished panda.

The garden party also revealed that the approval process for the transnational transportation of giant pandas is underway. “We are cautiously optimistic that their journey back to the country in China will be confirmed soon, and there will be plenty of bamboo.”

The Calgary Zoo announced in mid-May this year that due to the epidemic, the fresh bamboo supply chain has encountered challenges. The giant pandas "Da Mao" and "Ershun" leased to Canada by China will return to China nearly three years earlier than originally planned.

As of early August, the garden said that the two giant pandas had not yet made a trip and were facing the challenge of cutting off the supply of fresh bamboo.

According to the agreement between the governments of China and Canada, Chengdu male giant panda "Da Mao" and Chongqing female giant panda "Er Shun" went to Canada in March 2013, and originally planned to live there for 10 years.

They lived in Toronto for 5 years.

Meanwhile, "Er Shun" used artificial insemination technology to give birth to dragon and phoenix twins "Jia Panpan" and "Jia Yueyue" in October 2015.

In March 2018, 4 giant pandas moved to Calgary.

In January this year, "Jia Panpan" and "Jia Yueyue", who had reached the age of 4, returned to China first in accordance with the agreement.

For giant pandas, 99% of the food is fresh bamboo.

Fresh bamboo eaten by the pandas in China and Canada was originally airlifted from Sichuan, China.
