Several hundred people began to demonstrate on Saturday afternoon in Rouen to commemorate the first anniversary of the fire at the Lubrizol factory, which deeply marked the inhabitants.

"Guilty state, Lubrizol accomplice", could one read on the head banner, a slogan taken up by the demonstrators, as well as "Polluter pays, liar state".

On a sign, we could also read: “Je Suie Rouen.

»Starting from the Lubrizol site on the left bank of the Seine, the procession, in which is the deputy for the environment of the city, Jean-Michel Bérégovoy (EELV), headed towards the city center.

“One year after a very serious fire, the population is lacking information.

There are a lot of things we don't know, including the nature of the products burnt, ”said Jean-Paul, 68, who did not want to give his last name.

For Paul Poulain, specialist in industrial risks, “the problem today in France is that we lack the means to apply the rules on industrial safety”.

Paul Poulain, who represents the Our House Burns platform, also denounces the fact that companies that are not in order "are not always sanctioned".

The fire, which occurred on September 26, 2019 on a site classified as Seveso high threshold, that is to say particularly dangerous, had caused an immense cloud of black smoke 22 km long with fallout of soot in a large radius.

Nearly 9,505 tonnes of chemicals had burned in this automotive lubricants factory and on the neighboring Normandie Logistique site.

The fire caused no casualties.
