In the new show from Europe 1, "Historically yours", Stéphane Bern examines the roots of an expression of everyday life.

Friday, he is interested in the origin of three expressions very used by the teenagers: "to have the seum", "YOLO" and "to make of thug".

The jardon of young people can be very complicated to understand when you are no longer a teenager

.

Fortunately, Stéphane Bern, who every day in

Historically yours

with Matthieu Noël dissects three expressions widely used by new generations.

What, perhaps, to begin to renew the link of language with the rebellious teenager of the house.

"You are lucky to have a young toddler at home who still uses chastened language, but beware: adolescence is lurking. Soon your bubbly little guy will turn into a soft teenager, speaking an obscure language. That's why I decided today to make a small non-exhaustive point of the various expressions currently used by the young people and often completely incomprehensible for the adults.

From Frenglish, Abbreviated and Arabic

First expression very used by young people: 'do the thug'.

It means 'play the rebel', and it's regularly used as 'stop doing the thug'.

A use of an English term to say the least hyperbolic.

It should indeed be known that the 'thugs' were a brotherhood of assassins who resisted the English in the 13th century during the colonization of India.

Second expression: 'YOLO'.

Before using this interjection, understand the meaning: it is an acronym using an English phrase: 'You only live once', which means 'We only live once'.

'YOLO' is therefore used by adolescents to say that you have to enjoy life.

It's all in all the new version of the 'Carpe diem' of our Latin lessons.

Finally, young people can regularly complain about 'having the seum', which is an expression to say that we are extremely upset.

The term 'seum' comes from the Arabic word 'sèmm' which means 'venom'.

In other words, when you have the seum, you have rage.

I don't know if you will understand teenagers better, but in any case you will be able to make yourself lather up with new expressions not pricked by the beetles: YOLO! "
