We already knew that sports halls were going to have to stop welcoming the public in the eleven metropolises placed on Wednesday in "enhanced alert zone", as part of the fight against the coronavirus.

The Prime Minister announced that the indoor swimming pools could also be closed, but this measure is left to the appreciation of the prefects.

Invited this Thursday evening in the program "You have the floor", on France 2, Jean Castex declared that "all the covered swimming pools will be closed", in order to stop the spread of the Covid-19.

He was then questioned and clarified that this measure is not imposed by the government, but is proposed and subject to local consultation.

In other words, the prefects and local executives of “enhanced alert zones” (Bordeaux, Grenoble, Lille, Lyon, Montpellier, Nice, Paris and the inner suburbs, Rennes, Rouen, Saint-Étienne and Toulouse), and of “ maximum alert ”(Aix-Marseille and Guadeloupe), may decide to close all the indoor swimming pools.

On the other hand, outdoor swimming pools will be able to continue to accommodate people, said Jean Castex.

But the weather is no longer quite optimal for this kind of body of water ...
