During the summer months from mid-July to the end of August, a series of accidents while swimming in the sea, which is not a beach, killed 12 people in the Kanto region and Shizuoka prefecture, the highest number in the past five years.

On the other hand, only one person was injured at the beach, which was not opened due to the influence of the new coronavirus.

According to the 3rd Regional Coast Guard Headquarters, which has jurisdiction over offshore areas such as the Kanto region, 41 people were rescued from drowning or being injured while swimming in the sea from July 16 to the end of August. So, 13 of them died.

Twelve of the thirteen people who died have been drowning in the sea, which has not been a beach since the usual year, and the number of people who died in these places was the highest in the past five years.

On the other hand, only one person was injured while swimming at the beach, which had not been opened due to the spread of the infection.

The Maritime Security Headquarters suspected that the number of people swimming in the sea, which usually does not become a beach, increased due to repeated calls to refrain from swimming in the beach that was not opened, and the number of accidents increased. We continue to urge you to refrain from swimming in the sea, where rescue systems and surveillance are diminished.
